Boston: IUI Stories of Success Using Fertility Drugs

Boston,

Most doctors these days will recommend that patients use medication during cycles of IUI, even if the woman has good ovulation and healthy eggs. One of the main reasons for this is that IUI is most successful when three or four healthy eggs are present, and normally, women produce one or two per cycle.

If you’re considering trying IUI with various types of medications, you might benefit from hearing some successful IUI stories from other women or couples who have gone through the same things that you will.

Melodie’s IUI Story of a Lightly Medicated Cycle

Melodie and her husband had been trying to get pregnant for just two years before they sought help. After going through a battery of tests, they discovered that she was in perfect baby-making condition but that his sperm count and motility were pretty low. The doctor said they had a good chance of conceiving through IUI, so they decided to try it.

Since Melodie was already ovulating regularly and well, she decided not to take Clomid or any other medications during her cycle. She did, though, track her cycle at home, heading into the doctor’s office the day before she would have ovulated naturally for a shot of hCG, which ensured that she would ovulate at just the right time for the IUI procedure.

On the day of the procedure, Melodie’s husband had his sperm washed, and the doctor injected fairly mobile sperm, although the count was a little lower than he would have liked. This didn’t seem to make a difference, though, and Melodie and her husband got pregnant on that very first try! Jessie’s Clomid IUI Cycle

When she had a miscarriage after trying to conceive unsuccessfully for three years, Jessie thought that her world would come crashing down.

Her husband, Jim, wouldn’t let her give up, though. Although their doctor suggested IVF because the fertility problems were on both sides, Jessie and Jim decided to try a few rounds of the more-affordable IUI first. Instead of taking chances with an unsuccessful natural cycle, they chose to use Clomid, which increased the number of eggs Jessie produced by quite a bit.

After the completely pain-free procedure, Jessie and Jim were hopeful, and they struggled through their whole two week wait. The night before Jessie was supposed to go to the doctor for her hormone test, she took a home pregnancy test, which let her know a few hours early that she was expecting! At her first ultrasound, Jessie found out she was expecting twins! Addie Pulls Out the Big Guns for her IUI.

Addie knew before she married Lance that she would have trouble getting pregnant, since she had been diagnosed with PCOS as a teenager. Instead of waiting before they tried, the couple never used birth control, but were still unable to get pregnant naturally. After two years, they decided to try IUI.

The first few rounds, Addie used the typical medications – Clomid, Follism, etc. – but had absolutely no luck. The medications did what they were supposed to do, but it still wasn’t quite enough. Addie’s doctor suggested that she and her husband move on to IVF, but she wasn’t ready for the emotional roller coaster, and she knew they didn’t have the money right then.

Addie and Lance budgeted for just three more rounds of IUI, but this time, they added extra money into the budget for heavier medications and moved on to the same injected medications used for IVF patients. Addie didn’t like the mood swings and side effects brought on by the medications – and neither did Lance! But they pushed through one full, unsuccessful cycle.

After a two-month break where they both worked on stress relief and falling back in love, Addie, armed with yoga classes and acupuncture therapy every week, tried another cycle of injection-medication IUI. This time, the two week wait was excruciating, but the reward at the end of it was well worth it when she found out that she was pregnant, finally!
