Boston: How a Due Date Calculator Works

Boston,

From the very first day a woman misses her period she begins to ponder if she could be pregnant. Some women are full of joyful anticipation, some others perhaps might wish it was not so. After a do-it-yourself pregnancy test or perhaps a visit to a lab, the pregnancy is finally confirmed.

On sharing the news with her near and dear ones a woman is no doubt going to be asked when she is due. This might be a difficult question to answer for various reasons. A woman may not be able to pinpoint the day she actually conceived.

Conception is the miraculous moment when the man’s sperm joins a woman’s egg. Human sperm can survive in the woman’s body for four to five days after sexual intercourse. The sperm and egg form a single entity and travel into the fallopian tube to form a zygote. This is the baby in its most minute form which swiftly develops into an embryo. If the fertilized egg is successfully implanted, pregnancy is said to have occurred. As the zygote develops the next stage is known as a blastocyst that consists of about 100 cells. Then this tiny form attaches to the walls of the mother’s uterus where it grows and is nourished through the placenta.

Conception usually occurs during a woman’s most fertile days. This is a few days during ovulation. Ovulation is what happens when an ovum is released from the ovary and starts to travel down the fallopian tube. This usually happens around about 14 days after the start of a woman’s menstrual period. Generally women tend to have a cycle of 28 days. Therefore ovulation is estimated to begin on day number 14. But there are many women who find they have a longer cycle, in which case they may ovulate after roughly 18 days.

Doctors and midwives have formulated a number of ways of calculation the due date of the baby’s arrival. There is one formula that calculates the due date by adding 266 days to ovulation. Conversely they could add 280 days to the first day of the last period the woman had.

Thanks to the internet, a number of sites provide due date calculators online. Woman simply enters her due date and the conception date calculator can calculate the possible date when she actually got pregnant. This amazing calculator can figure out when sexual intercourse occurred as well as work out the due date by adding 38 weeks to the date of fertilization. Conception date calculator is most likely to occur for couples trying to find a fertility window. It is believed the conception date calculator can help in predicting the gender of the baby depending on which day of the fertile period sexual intercourse actually takes place.

However it should be noted that the due date calculator is merely a tool. The dates that are thus calculated are purely estimates based on averages. A conception date calculator cannot be used as a kind of method of contraception.
