Boston: How to Determine Your Most Fertile Days to Get Pregnant

Boston,

Before you even start to worry about why you’re not getting pregnant from your first month of trying or wonder if you are infertile make sure you know which your most fertile days to get pregnant are. Most women make the mistake of not calculating their fertile periods of the month, decreasing this way their chances of conceiving.

There are multiple ways to determine which the most fertile days to get pregnant are, but here are the most effective ones that you can even combine for better results:

1. If you have regular periods then you can use the simplest method of all, the calendar method. If your average length cycle is of 28 days then you ovulate around day 14 of the cycle, meaning this day is the most fertile one to get pregnant. If the length is 32 days, then you ovulate around day 18 of the cycle.

2. If you really want to get pregnant then you can’t rely just on the calendar method. Buy from a drug store a set of ovulation tests that measure the level of hormones in your urine and determine if you are at ovulation or not. Using the method described above from day 12 of your cycle take a test each morning until it comes out positive. This means you are ovulating and you are fertile

3. Another way to determine the most fertile days to get pregnant is by observing the changes in the mucus coming from your cervix. As the ovulation moment approaches it gets whiter and whiter until the egg is eliminated (in case it’s not fertilized). This is a very good method of also getting to know your body better, which is very important when you are trying to get pregnant.

4. A method that is commonly used, but it’s not very effective, is measuring each morning your basal temperature using a special thermometer. The moment the temperature rises with a degree or so means the egg has been released and you are fertile. The results aren’t always accurate, especially if you just had a cold or fever.

Now, these are the best ways to determine your most fertile days to get pregnant but here is a little secret than can improve by 50% your chances of conceiving: start having sex with two days before ovulation because the sperm cells live inside a woman’s body up to 5-6 days, while the egg cell stays alive only 24 hours. This means the chances of getting pregnant are higher if the sperm is already in your uterus the moment you ovulate and the egg is released.
