The Secret Life of The American Teenager is a popular new television series from the creator of 7th Heaven, Kelly Lonergan. The first episode aired in America on ABC Family, on July 1st 2008.
Ratings for the show are through the roof and have left fans begging for more! When its fifth episode aired it officially became more popular than Gossip Girl! Something I would never have expected (huge gossip girl fan here!)
The show focuses on the character Amy Juergens and her unplanned teenage pregnancy. It’s addictive to watch from the opening scene, when Amy comes home smuggling a home pregnancy test inside her French horn case as her mother tells her that she needs to get out and have some fun.

Amy Juergens
A sometimes shy, always nerdy marching band member who hooked up with the schools notorious bad boy Ricky at band camp. Amy finds out in the first episode that shes pregnant with Rickys baby
Ricky Underwood
Yes this is the guy who knocked up Amy after taking her virginity at band camp. The school drummer has made it his goal to sleep with as many girls as he can. He is a bit messed up because as a child he was sexually abused by his father. Ricky is often seen hanging around the campus with his ‘bedmate’ Adrian Lee (the token “bad girl” of the school)
Ashley Juergens
She’s only 13 but dresses as if she’s 18. Ashley is very opinionated and switched on when it comes to whats happening around her. Her rebelliousness has resulted in losing her parents trust, but is it really Ashley they should be worried about?
Grace Bowman
Grace is a hardcore Christian girl who also happens to be the head cheerleader. She was dating Jack Pappas until it was revealed that he had sex with Adrian.
Jack Pappas
Grace’s ex-boyfriend. He’s on the football team and he sure is a jerk. After cheating on Grace he tells her that the only reason he asked her out is because his step father told him to. Not one of the most loved characters of the series, he starts to develop a bit of a thing for Adrian
Ben Boykewick
‘The Sausage Prince’ Well his dad owns a business called The Sausage King and its referred to a lot in the show. He is a geeky guy who falls in love with Amy. He doesn’t know Amy is pregnant until his father mentions it. When she confesses he proposes to her and wants to tell everybody the baby is his. A little bit creepy but also very sweet. He is head over heels for her.
Adrian Lee
The “bad girl”. She is sleeping with Ricky Underwood and also hooks up with Grace’s boyfriend Jack. She wants to be his girlfriend but he seems to be using her for sex. She gets high grades but tries to keep it a secret because she likes her reputation.
