Boston: Care To Be Taken During Pregnancy

Boston,

Motherhood is probably the most precious gift that a woman can get in her life. Therefore, when you are pregnant it is very important to take good care of yourself both physically and mentally, which will lead you to a problem-free pregnancy.

Here are some guidance that will boost your chances of having a problem-free pregnancy and a healthy baby.

· Early Prenatal Care: A good prenatal care is always necessary for you and your baby and for that you must schedule your first prenatal visit, during which you will get screened for certain conditions which sometimes may lead to serious complications. For this, you need to choose a quality healthcare provider without any delay and schedule your visits to analyse your medical concerns with them.

· Being careful about your food diet: You must realise that whatever you eat, must be adequate for both you and your baby. According to an estimation, a pregnant woman needs only 300 more calories per day, and the diet must contain a good amount of protein (around 70gms of protein) as well, besides normal amount of calcium (increment in the calcium consumption is not required). You should be cautious about avoiding undercooked eggs and meat, unpasteurized dairy products, juices, raw sea food, and cold deli meats which contain harmful bacteria and should be kept away from the foetus.

· Consuming prenatal vitamins: You must make sure of consuming adequate amount of vitamins daily. Usually, most of the prenatal supplements contain folic acid and iron than you will find in other standard multivitamins. Folic acid helps in reducing the baby’s risk of developing neural tube birth defects such as Spinal bifida. In addition, Iron plays a significant role during second and third trimesters of pregnancy.

· Regular exercise: It is required to maintaining a healthy exercise program during pregnancy period. A good exercise program will help you develop your strength and endurance to carry the weight gained during pregnancy and to overcome the physical stress of labour.

· Take adequate rest: You must not pressurize yourself while working and must relax more often to combat stress. Yoga, stretching, and deep breathing are some prescribed techniques that prove as stress reliefs.

· Avoid alcohol and smoking: Any alcohol consumed during pregnancy reaches the baby rapidly through your bloodstream. And smoking increases the risk of growth problems, premature delivery and miscarriage.

· Avoid edibles containing caffeine: Caffeine has no nutritive value and it is hard for a body to absorb iron. It is advisable for pregnant women to limit their caffeine consumption to less than 200mg per day, an amount they can get from a single 8-ounce cup of strong coffee.

· Take good care of your mental health: Normally during pregnancy, a woman feels like going through an emotional roller coaster at one time or another, but if your mood swings are extreme then you are suffering from depression, which should be avoided at any cost.
