Boston: Diabetes And Pregnancy!

Boston,

Diabetes is a disease in which blood sugar or blood glucose level in the body goes up to the extreme levels. It poses greater threats to the pregnant women. At present, 16 per cent of pregnant women in India are living with gestational diabetes. Gestational diabetes is diabetes that happens for the first time when a woman is pregnant. Though it goes away when the woman gives birth to her baby, chances of its recurrence are always there.

Pregnant women are therefore required to monitor and control their sugar levels during the entire period of their pregnancy. They are also tested for diabetes during their second trimester of pregnancy. Women at higher risks may be tested earlier and more frequently.

Risk levels go up particularly for those who have diabetes before their pregnancy. They have to be careful about the diet and medications they take, especially during their pregnancy time. To help lower risks, the woman should follow a diet plan, exercise, test her blood sugar regularly, and take medication if needed. This is the best treatment for diabetes women get during their pregnancy days.

Family support is crucial during these days. The family of the pregnant woman should ensure that they are around all the time as she may need their help at any time. Consultation with the lady doctor would also help plan the things appropriately. Friends can play a significant role if the family of the pregnant woman is not around; after all, friends in need are friends indeed.

Gestational diabetes cases are rising rapidly in India and worldwide; however, it is not something that can’t be controlled and do away with. The treatment for diabetes only requires the right knowledge and cooperation with the medical team that looks after the woman. Find out the best diet, exercises, tests that you can take to lower the risks to the best possible extent. The most-important thing would be to avoid food and drinks that give boost to the sugar levels in the blood.

Pregnancy can be a wonderful time to spend time with your own self and the baby. Make the most of this time. Start a blog. Write a diary. Read a book. Go for shopping for some garments that are loose and appropriate for the months to come. Let the husband make the changes in the bedroom and bathroom so that you can move around with ease after you come back from the hospital.
