Boston: Things to Do and Remember During Pregnancy

Boston,

Many things suddenly crop up when a woman becomes pregnant – things to do and remember that are vital to both the mum-to-be and the child that is expected within the next nine months. Most have to do with making sure that both the mother and child will be healthy and safe during her pregnant stage and until her child’s birth. The other things, of course, are the preparations of the coming baby’s needs such as clothes, sustenance and other personal materials to make him or her comfortable, safe and healthy when at home.

For the women who are already expecting or still suspecting, becoming pregnant cannot be fully confirmed until at least two weeks after conception. When a woman notices some of the signs, the first thing to do is to have it confirmed, either through an over-the-counter test kit or a visit to the doctor or midwife. When it is confirmed that she is pregnant, if it’s the first baby, the expectant mother should talk to her doctor and ask for all the necessary information she needs such as proper nutrition, exercise needs, possible complications and everything else she needs to learn from day one until her child’s birth.

It may also help if one tries to take the initiative and read some books about being pregnant and a baby’s development from the first few weeks to their ninth month in the womb. Asking friends and relatives who have had previous experiences is another good option. Others go on right ahead and read advanced books on taking care of a baby that may cover their food and nutritional needs, proper bathing technique and stages of development.

Then there are the baby clothes, toys and proper sustenance. As for the baby crib, when one has an older child who has an old crib that will still be useful, this can help save up some money for the family. Old baby toys can also be useful for the new family addition as long as they are still in good and clean condition.

A pregnant woman needs to eat the proper kind of foods and avoid junk foods and sweet, fatty or sugar coated cakes and breads, ice cream and too much caffeine. Protein, vitamins B, D, A, C, iron taken from fish, lean meat, green leafy vegetables, fruits, whole grain bread, milk and others should be added to the diet.

Those with pre-existing medical conditions such as anaemia, high blood pressure, or asthma may do well to consult right ahead with her doctor or midwife to avoid possible complications during pregnancy. Doctors may also advise on the proper kind of food to eat or avoid and the supplements necessary when there are pre-existing medical conditions that may possibly complicate the condition.

Exercises that are not too heavy or strenuous will also help a pregnant woman, such as a few laps of swimming, a routine of aqua-natal exercises, some yoga exercises, or a special set of physical exercises developed by local gym instructors. Exercises help pregnant women in maintaining their good posture to prevent body aches, pains and discomfort especially during the last trimester of their pregnancy.

Exercises also help with proper breathing, muscle strengthening, body flexibility and stamina-building which will be very helpful during the last two trimesters and during the delivery period itself. Additionally, exercises also help pregnant women to be relaxed, comfortable and stress-free for the whole nine-month period and being in this constant state of mind and body will make the whole process an enjoyable one.
