Boston,
Congratulations, you’re having a baby! Now it’s time for you to prepare for a myriad of changes in your body that will have you wondering what’s normal and what isn’t.
One very common side effect is tiredness in early pregnancy. Your body is drastically changing in a short amount of time, so fatigue during pregnancy is perfectly normal. There are some things that you can do, however, to ensure that you keep your energy levels up throughout your pregnancy.
The first thing you should do is get plenty of rest. This may sound like a no-brainer, but many women assume that they can keep the same hours as they did before they were pregnant without any repercussions. The truth is that your body is redirecting some of its energy in order to produce the necessary nutrients for your baby so that you will have a healthy pregnancy.
If you want your body to do what it needs to for your baby, then you need to ensure that you get the rest you need so that it can work properly. This will go a long way towards preventing tiredness in early pregnancy. This means getting at least eight hours of sleep a night as well as taking naps if you’re feeling overly tired.
Another thing that you can do to prevent tiredness in early pregnancy is to eat healthy meals. Many women stress about the weight that they gain during pregnancy and actually diet in an effort to minimize this weight gain. I DON’T recommend dieting during pregnancy…getting sufficient nutrients to your baby is absolutely essential so you don’t want to do anything that may jeopardize this.
A certain amount of weight gain is normal in a healthy pregnancy and you don’t want to minimize the amount of food you are eating. Instead, make sure that you are eating well balanced meals that provides you with your necessary daily nutrients. Talk to your doctor about your caloric intake to get a recommendation of how much many calories you should have each day.
Lastly, getting daily exercise will help prevent tiredness in early pregnancy. Exercising during pregnancy will not only give you more energy, but it has been proven to ease the labor process, helping it to be a little less painful and to move along faster.
Before you start exercising, however, discuss your plans with your doctor. If any of the exercises require stomach muscles, your doctor must approve the exercise first, otherwise you could be endangering your unborn child.
Fatigue during pregnancy is normal, but you can take steps to prevent it. The bottom line is that taking care of yourself properly will help you to have a more problem-free pregnancy.
