Boston: Vaginal Discharge - An Early Pregnancy Symptom

Boston,

Most women are aware that morning sickness is the earliest pregnancy symptom. Another most obvious and conform indicator of pregnancy is thought to be the missed periods. However, some women are unaware that vaginal discharge is also a sign of early pregnancy. Read on to find the details.

The vaginal discharge that can be seen on the underwear or when you wipe off after urinating generally ranges in color. It varies from pinkish brown to milky white. The reason behind this vaginal discharge is the increase in estrogen level and increased flow of blood towards vagina. Sometime it seems that you are spotting especially if the discharge occurs around the days of menstrual cycles. Pinkish brown color is because of the blood that is left over from previous cycles and there is nothing alarming in it.

Every woman does not experience this type of discharge. So if this discharge is not noticed then it does not mean that the woman is not pregnant. There are chances that the woman is pregnant and do not have this sign of pregnancy. The sure way of determining your pregnancy is by visiting doctor.

Vaginal discharge is also termed mucus plug. This mucus plug blocks the cervical opening to protect the child from different infections. As the pregnancy progresses and the turns towards labor, the body expels the mucus plug as the cervix is dilated.

As long as this discharge is odorless and is not followed by itching or burning; it is only the indicator of pregnancy. However if the vaginal discharge is smelly and itchy it is better to consult gynecologist. The smelly discharge could be the indicator of sexually transmitted disease, some viral or bacterial infection.
